IT Senior Application Architect - Database (PSS)
Job description
The
IT Senior Application Architect - Database (PSS) is responsible for the
design and development of PSS database including tables, schema,
objects and solutions. The role will be responsible to lead, manage and
deliver any database related changes occurring as part of application
modifications, change requests, as well as analyse impact on existing
structures. The role will also be responsible to align database
development activities to industry standard best practices.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Key Activities1. Responsible for designing the database architecture for the PSS suite of applications as part of the PSS project.
2. Develop the Reservation System database, which is a transactional database based in Oracle
3. Design, maintain and regularly update the PSS Domain Model and Entity/Relationships
4. Control database structure/design change, to ensure manageable impact due to DB structural changes
5. Guide implementation of technology to be used in E-TL or EL-T strategies, including Golden Gate/ODI
6. Understand end to end domain model of PSS related structures including but not limited to
• PNR
• ETicket
• Schedules
• Inventory
• Flights
• Customer Profiles
• Frequent Flyer/Loyalty Systems
• External Pricing Solutions
• Merchandising Solutions
7. Analyse, Optimise and Continuously Evaluate queries that are developed/in production to understand the plan followed by the query in the database, identify areas where time is taken and improve the application database health
8. Work along with the database administrators to maintain the PSS database with adequate security and access rights
9. Work along with development vendors to ensure FZ database design and development standards are followed, delivering best of breed solutions
10. Review vendor design
11. Optimise development effort, by bringing in best practices in database development
12. Validate architectural fit and stability of data structures in PSS and related applications
13. Implementation of database solution for FZ hosted PSS platform
14. Research and recommend innovative solutions for PSS database requirements taking into account locally hosted, cloud and hybrid solution options
15. Responsible for troubleshooting and problem solving of Oracle database related issue, in development, testing, staging, production and DR environments as part of the PSS project
16. Responsible for implementation and release of PSS Oracle database changes.
17. Document, manage and move to production new applications/modules/functionality developed internally as well as by external vendors
18. Ensure the developed solution is validated against the agreed design
19. Perform static code reviews and tool based reviews to ensure code quality and adequate code coverage
20. Develop stored procedures, triggers, indexes, and views in support of development projects.
21. Provides guidance and mentoring to his team
22. Document, manage and move to production new applications/modules/functionality developed internally as well as by external vendors
23. Manage a team that supports IT systems databases, and foster a sense of team building and belonging within the team
24. Align design of database solutions alongside business objectives, and ensure organisational goals are met

Desired Skills and Experience
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE/ KNOWLEDGE / SKILLSMinimum Qualification• Engineering Graduate specializing in Computer Science, Electronics or Electrical Engineering
• Oracle Certified Professional
Experience• 10 + years’ proven experience in working against airline databases
• 5+ years of involvement in tuning and optimising database queries
• 5+ years of experience in airline database design
Knowledge / Skills• Experience in designing and maintaining transaction based systems, with high level of performance requirements
• Highly skilled in design patterns
• Experience in working with Quality Structures such as SEI CMM, ITPM, Tik, 6 Sigma
Certificate / License required• OCP, DBA (desirable)
