This role requires strong partnership with the business to strategically manage spend for the assigned categories. The Senior Strategic Sourcing Manager will develop category-sourcing strategy and lead cross-functional teams to execute the sourcing and supplier management strategy for their assigned categories. This position requires seasoned experience with SS methodologies related to indirect procurement commodities by performing market and spend analysis and then working with the business to build a category roadmap, perform sourcing activities, leading contract negotiations and award to supplier, and then utilizing scorecards and quarterly business reviews to monitor supplier performance. The Senior Strategic Sourcing Manager will be responsible for negotiating and administering of pricing agreements, service contracts. The applicant must display the characteristics create and review analysis reports, strongly represent the SS department in company meetings, interact with other departments, effectively lead negotiations and work efficiently handling multiple responsibilities. Ultimately, the Senior Strategic Sourcing Manager should manage and be the procurement expert in his/her commodity area and assist the manager with company-wide SS strategy and decisions.

Responsibilities:
  • Ability to manage preferred supplier relationships, monitoring performance and analyzing category spend, and ability to connect with business leaders in an effort to define and strategically leverage spending to include proactive focus on major spend initiatives.
  • Strategize with the BU stakeholders to identify and proactively focus on major spend initiatives or opportunities to drive optimal cost savings.
  • Propose and drive opportunities for optimal cost savings through analysis of current spend and external category analysis and benchmarking.
  • Lead or facilitate the supplier selection, Request for Proposal (RFP) projects and negotiation process to deliver agreements that include excellent long-term pricing models, measurable service level/performance criteria, effective remedies for non-performance, mechanisms for monitoring performance/remedies, etc.
  • Facilitate the development of programs to control and automate appropriate categories.
  • Manage the assigned supplier base through supplier scorecards and quarterly business reviews.
  • Partner with Legal team to ensure negotiations result in optimal terms.
  • Work with internal staff and other departments as a team player to achieve desired goals.
  • Effectively communicate the mission of Strategic Sourcing and educate internal stakeholders: must be able to understand and interpret the difference between what stakeholder asks for, what they actually need, and what contracts/buying arrangement may already exist to serve those needs
  • Ability to think both strategically and tactically; ideal candidate will manage commodity area from high-level definition of pricing strategy to the management of purchase orders.
Basic Qualifications:
  • 10+ years experience in purchasing related background.
  • 6+ years experience in managing multiple commodity areas and effectively procuring goods/services in a fast paced work environment is required. 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • BA/BS degree in business, supply chain management or other related field.
  • Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) or Senior Professional in Supply Management (SPSM) a plus.

About this position

·       Experience developing and defining the product strategy and roadmap for a best in class technology solution. 

·       Possesses a deep understanding of the product process, including mining, organizing and surfacing customer feedback.

·       Experience planning and executing through the product lifecycle, including gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, defining the product vision and working closely with marketing, product development, sales and support to ensure revenue and customer satisfaction.

POSITION SUMMARY
The University of Connecticut seeks a Bioinformatics Scientist to serve faculty, researchers, and graduate students on the main UConn campus and the UCHC within the Center for Genome Innovation housed in the cross-campus Institute for Systems Genomics (isg.uconn.edu). We are seeking applications from dynamic, motivated individuals interested in providing computational biology and statistical expertise to help develop and analyze a variety of projects. The Bioinformatics Scientist will work closely with members of the Center for Genome Innovation (sequencing core facility) to support investigators as they design their experiments, particularly those that involve next-generation sequencing data. The user base of the CGI is broad, and the successful candidate can expect to work on a diverse array of problems in a range of systems (both model and non-model organisms).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will provide consultation to faculty, researchers, and graduate students on the use of specific computing tools for solving a broad range of problems in biology, interface with biologists and computer scientists, and maintain web and tutorial resources. They will have an excellent command of verbal and written communication to facilitate the dissemination of results through presentations, reports, and scientific publications. They will stay informed on the latest software tools and test these for possible integration into existing analysis pipelines.

APPOINTMENT TERMS
Candidates with commensurate experience will be considered at the more advanced Academic Assistant 3 classification. This is a non-tenure track, annual 11-month appointment. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
M.S. with two or more years' post M.S. work experience or Ph.D. in bioinformatics or a related area; direct experience or equivalent skills to design experiments and analyze data from studies focused on: RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, RAD-Seq, metagenomics, genome assembly, variant detection, and/or phylogenetics. Proficiency in one or more scripting languages (Perl or Python) as well as fluency in Unix and comfort in high performance computing environments is expected. Excellent project management and organization skills required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Solid foundation in statistics as well as software development is desired. Expertise in R/Bioconductor is desired.
